Blue Knights
Maryland III
The Blue Knights was started in 1974 by Ed Gallant, a police officer with the Bangor, Maine Police Department. Ed had an idea to form a motorcycle club for people in law enforcement. Together with seven or eight other cops, the idea became a reality. After a story about the club ran in the local paper the United Press International and Road Rider Magazine also ran a story. Shortly thereafter, inquiries from all over began to pour in. The first chapter outside Maine was in Brockton, MA.and the idea spread to Canada, where Moncton, N.B. became the first chapter outside the United States.

The first Blue Knights International convention was held in 1975 at Squaw Mountain, Maine. Since that time the convention has been held all over the United States and Canada. The 2008 Blue Knights International Convention will be held in Peroria, Illinois.

As of September 30, 2007, the Blue Knights has grown to include 11 Conferences with 588 Chapters and 19,848 Members. The Blue Knights and it's members, to date, have donated over 8.9 million dollars and 162,289 man hours to 1,569 charities. The Mason Dixon Conference, of which Maryland III is a member is the third largest and has 2,613 members in 67 chapters.
